Accounting Job Descriptions - Comments

Accounting is often called the language of business. Accountants are responsible for preparing and communicating financial information to be shared both internally, within a business, and externally, with other companies, government agencies, or individuals. An important aspect of accounting job descriptions is ensuring that financial data is maintained accurately. By keeping track of revenue, expenses, liabilities, and assets, an accounting job description may also include ensuring that taxes are properly paid, IOUs are not left neglected, and revenue listed on paper correctly reflects the amount coming in. A bachelor's degree is generally required for accounting positions and further education may be needed depending on the specific accounting job description. To become a Certified Public Accountant, for example, accountants must obtain a CPA certification.

According to a recent PayScale Accountant Survey, many accountants started out as Full Charge Bookkeepers, Accounting Clerks, or Accounting Assistants. Five years after holding these accounting job descriptions, many advanced to become Senior Accountants or Staff Accountants.
