Environmental Engineer Job Description Comments

As recent films like An Inconvenient Truth and The 11th Hour keep the increasingly dire environmental situation in the spotlight, more and more companies worldwide are "going green" and heightening focus on environmentally sustainable business practices. With this flood of awareness come increased opportunities for environmental engineers to ply their trade. Engineering is a field that covers a broad number of activities, but there are certain core duties that make up an environmental engineer job description.

An environmental engineer's job description has two main areas of focus: remediation of existing environmental threats, and development of new solutions to prevent and control future environmental health hazards. An environmental engineer job description may include research and strategy as well as more mainstream environmental engineering tasks. While wastewater treatment may seem an unlovely task, it's likely to be a part of many environmental engineer job descriptions as areas become more densely populated. An environmental engineer job description may also include working with construction contractors to minimize environmental harm in new building, or working to ameliorate environmental risks brought on by older, less eco-friendly sites. While it may not be spelled out in an environmental engineer's job description, environmental engineers have a rather unique opportunity to make a difference in the future with their hard work and innovation today.
