Job Description of a Financial Planner - Comments

The job description of a financial planner can be summed up as helping people attain their long-term goals, whether it be purchasing a dream home, saving for a child's college education, or retiring early. The job description of a financial planner involves assessing all sources of revenue, including salaries and investments, and creating a budget for clients that meets their various long-term goals, hopefully without restricting their current quality of life. A financial planner is also involved in optimizing investments to yield the best return. As a client moves through major life changes, such as marriage and retirement, the job description of a financial planner may include modifying the initial financial map to accommodate the client's changing needs and goals.

According to a recent PayScale Financial Planner Survey, financial planners often move into the job from a wide range of occupations. Five years prior to having a financial planner job title, some worked as Associate Financial Planners, while others started out as a waiter or sales associate. The survey also shows that a career in financial planning often leads to becoming a Certified Financial Planner or a Financial Analyst.
