We've all pulled an all-nighter at some point in our collegiate or professional careers, but this infographic by Online Colleges illustrates the emotional and physical effects of working through the night.
You might think that an all-nighter will help you become more productive, but sleep deprivation can actually wreck your ability to retain information, control your emotions and concentrate in the short term. In the long term, the side effects of pulling all-nighters are even more dangerous: they can lead to a weakened immune system, insulin resistance, diabetes, kidney failure and even heart disease.
The infographic also outlines common methods used to stay up all night, including snacking, drinking caffeine, putting on a few bright lights and exercising. In lieu of an all-nighter, try a power nap. Even just 30 minutes of rest can boost the immune system, increase alertness and enhance brainpower, supercharging your efficiency without compromising your health.
