Getting a master’s degree is a great way to give your career a boost with more opportunities for promotions and a higher salary. But, not all master’s degrees pay. The infographic below from BestMastersPrograms.org outlines the five lowest paying master’s degrees.
A master’s in culinary arts can open up doors to becoming a restaurant or personal chef, or caterer, but none of those jobs pay particularly well. The starting salary for these jobs averages at $31,000 a year and the mid-career salary averages at $49,700.
A master’s in education is a great start to becoming a teacher, principal or social worker. The average starting salary for these careers is $37,200 and the average mid-career salary is $55,000.
Careers in child welfare and mental health are best started with a master’s in social work. However, this is one master’s degree that won’t boost your salary. The average starting salary is $33,100 and the average mid-career salary is $37,700.
