To answer this question, the Canadian Scholarship Trust plan developed the Inspired Minds initiative to take a look into the future careers of today's children. According to its website, the initiative is to "help guide Canada’s education and professional pathways into the future."
Business Insider recently compiled a list of some of the most exotic and bizarre jobs on the CST's forecast. We can expect these jobs by 2030, according to their futurists:
1. Tele-surgeon: This specialized doctor performs surgery on people with robotic tools instead of human hands.
Today's equivalent: Neurosurgeon: This type of doctor is already in high demand, and many already practice using surgery on patients using minimally invasive procedures with robots to help. The median salary in the U.S. for today's neurosurgeon is $331,724.
2. Nostalgist: This person is an interior designer specializing in recreating memories for retired people. Rather than settling for a typical "retirement village" experience where everyone’s apartment looks the same, the wealthy elderly of 2030 will have the luxury of living in a space inspired by their favorite decade.
Today's equivalent: Interior Designer: Today, many interior designers already work with the wealthy to create spaces designed be unique to the resident's own tastes and styles. Interior designers can expect a median income in the U.S. of $41,243.
3. Re-wilder: Re-wilders work in highly efficient skyscraper-like greenhouses known as vertical farms. The re-wilder’s job is to undo environmental damage to the countryside caused by people, factories, cars, and intensive one crop monoculture farming (which occurs when only crop is planted over a large area of land).
Today's Equivalent: Farmer: Today's farmers are already working to undo environmental damage and focusing on protecting both people and animals. While a farmer's income can vary substantially depending on where they are located, the season, and the type of crops they produce, the median income for a farmer in the U.S. is $31,214.
