Maternity Leave Poll Results Are Here!

The results of Compensation Today's first poll are in. A few weeks ago, in "Poll: What is Your Company's Maternity Leave Policy," we asked readers to tell about their company's maternity leave policies. A little over 250 of you let us know. The results can be found below. Most provide the statutory requirement of 12 weeks of unpaid leave, but a fifth are now providing paid leave.

The 12 weeks of unpaid leave mandated by the FMLA 57%
More than the 12 weeks of unpaid leave mandated by the FMLA 13%
Paid leave of any amount 20%
No maternity leave of any kind 10%

Many New Hires Don't Stick Around

After a year, a mere half of new hires remain in their jobs and perform well. That's a distressing finding in a recent survey. It found that 25 percent of new hires leave within in a year. On top of that, another third fail to perform to expectations. Companies need help recruiting and retaining it seems.

Hiring Is Up, But Recruiting Is a Challenge  

Companies are planning to boost hiring throughout 2012, but are not confident about their ability to do it well. The Allied Van Lines survey found that overall confidence in the ability to hire is middling. Respondents also reported low enthusiasm for the recruiting incentives they had on hand.

Workers Expect To Work Longer

The average American expects to be working well into their golden years, according to recent research. A Gallup poll found that the average worker expects to retire at age 67. Tough news for employees, but it also raises questions for employers. Among the most pressing, how do you help your employees grow and best leverage their skills in increasingly long work cycles?
