Riverside, Calif. Metro Area Pay Trends

Updated April 5, 2012
2012: Riverside, Calif. needed a break from falling wages, and it finally found one in Q1 2012. Rising about 1 percent over the previous quarter, earnings in Riverside experienced their second highest quarter-to-quarter growth since their peak in Q4 2008.

2007-2011: The wages for full-time private workers in the Riverside area followed the rollercoaster brought on by the recession. From a healthy rise through 2008, growing much faster than national averages, wage growth plummeted in 2009, leaving Riverside 3 percent below its 2008 peak within a year. Aside from a positive blip at the end of the year, wages were basically flat to down during 2010.

In 2011 earnings in the Riverside, San Bernardino, Ontario metropolitan area – also known as the "Inland Empire" – dropped 4 percentage points behind national trends by year’s end.
