St. Louis Metro Area Pay Trends

2012: With only a slight rise for wages in St. Louis in Q1 2012, workers’ earnings there went from outpacing the national trend line to lagging behind it for quarterly growth. Wages in St. Louis were up just 0.1 percent from the previous quarter.

2007-2011: St. Louis incomes tracked national pay trends from 2007 through 2008. While earnings in St. Louis did slide downward somewhat during 2009 and into 2010, workers in St. Louis enjoyed a healthy rebound in earnings by late 2010. After a flat beginning to 2011, wages in the land of the Gateway Arch enjoyed a nice upward curve by Q4, bringing wages to their pre-recession peak and pushing St. Louis above the national trend line with nearly 1.5 percent year-over-year growth.
