Job Description for Logistics Manager

The main task of a logistics manager is to manage the operations within a company's logistics department and the staff members that work within that department. Logistics managers are also responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the storage of raw material inventory. After that is addressed, they must ensure that the raw materials are properly distributed to their next destination. Logistics managers must also ensure that all financial transactions and customer supply needs associated with the logistics department are properly addressed in a timely manner. Most of the work done is physical, and requires the logistics manager to have positive mental attitude despite any problems that may occur while working. Logistics managers mainly work indoors. The work environment consists of warehouse facilities and other areas within a company that may used to store inventory. There are times when they may have to go outdoors to speak to the third-party companies that are responsible for shipping their inventory. Their main co-workers are the staff members in their shipping and receiving department. Logistics managers also have meetings with other department managers and brief them on the status and changes that may take place. Most logistics managers are required to have a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Some entry-level positions may allow a person with previous logistics and management experience to obtain the job position. Logistics managers are required to work various work hours. A typical day consists of monitoring the performance metrics of the inventory, shipping, and receiving within the logistics department. Logistics managers also address any problems that may arise in their department that may affect the workflow. Normally, logistics managers have a nine-to-five work schedule, but if they are receiving a shipment in the evening, they may be required to work during that time in order to supervise the operations.
