Job Description for Lifeguard

During those hot summer months, nothing is more cooling and relaxing than spending the day at a pool, lake, or even the beach. However, with all the fun going on, it is always a beneficial to have lifeguards on hand. Lifeguards play an important and crucial part in summer activity. To put it simply, a lifeguard is someone who saves the lives of those who may be in danger. They guard the lives of swimmers and protect the swimming area. This job requires the lifeguards to observe swimmers of all ages. A lifeguard can work in hotel pools, recreation pools, swim clubs, schools, lakes, oceans, etc. They must be able to supervise the swimmers and control their behavior in order to ensure the safety of the other swimmers. All lifeguards should be able to administer first aid and contact emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury. Other duties include responding to emergency situations in the water or surrounding areas, insuring that the pool, spa, and sauna are maintained according to all regulations, maintaining a safe swimming environment, and enforcing all policies, procedures and regulations. It is the lifeguard's job to ensure that everyone is safe. Most lifeguards will sit in tall chairs that overlook the pool or beach area to give themselves a better view of what is going on around them. In some cases, lifeguards will even use rowboats to patrol larger areas. Lifeguards also need to watch out for circumstances that could lead to other dangerous conditions, such as rough play, playing with risky objects or toys, and blatant disregard for the rules and regulations. Being a lifeguard is an excellent and rewarding job that helps to keep people safe.
Lifeguard Tasks
  • Insure the pool, spa, and sauna are maintained according to all regulations.
  • Respond to emergency situations in the water or surrounding areas.
  • Administer first aid and contact emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury.
  • Maintain a safe swimming environment and enforce all policies, procedures and regulations.
