Negotiating Higher Pay

Electrical Engineer - (City withheld for privacy), Western Australia, Australia
One of the worst things you can do for your career is be a silent achiever. I'm not saying that you should make sure everyone knows whenever you pick up a pen, and how many hours of overtime you're doing.

But if your going to work late make sure you ask your boss for permission so that he knows that you're going to be there. Make sure that the people above your boss know that your doing a good job. Most importantly never be seen as the weak link in the chain. If you have a reputation for leaving early it will get to your boss.

Thus when it comes to salary review time the seniors know who you are and what you have achieved.
