What is it like working as a Civil Engineering Technologist?
Civil Engineering Technologist in Nanaimo:
Pros: - Independence. I have been responsible for all survey projects and their execution from the preliminary phase to project completion.
- Flexibility. Small firms mean small commitments to a rigid schedule. With the ebb and flow of work, as long as I stay ahead of schedule I can take time off without qualms.
-Challenging. Having only seven employees means gaining proficiency in an array of job responsibilities.
Cons: - Pay. I have a year of direct experience in my field, but have surveyed for 5 years beforehand. I do not feel my qualifications are complimented by my salary.
-Lack of direction. Two resident engineers have perpetually full plates, so getting the appropriate answers to close out projects can be an exercise in patience.
-Lack of upward mobility.... You get the picture.
