Consistent days off
Line Cook - (City withheld for privacy), Ontario, Canada
Having a wife and child, it is very difficult to juggle working in a kitchen and family. The only way I found to do it was to, simply put, place my family first and let my general manager know this. Making sure you have certain days off or work on opening the kitchen rather than closing helps.

"Imaging life as if you were juggling balls. There are four different type of balls. Work. Family. Health. and Spirit. All of the balls are made of rubber; if dropped they will eventually bounce back up. But you will quickly find that the family ball is made of glass. If dropped, it will dent, chip, or even break."
