Don't be afraid to ask
Be firm and assertive when discussing numbers. Show that you're confident and truly believe that you are worth every penny.
Review your financial situation
Review your financial situation and set a clear compensation goal (salary, bonus, shares, etc.) prior to the 1st interview.
Do your research!
Always be prepared to discuss salary when asked, as this is an opportunity to show how you can research and compile pertinent information. Aim high, but don't paint yourself into a corner with absolute statements like "I'll only consider a wage of $()" as your interviewer will see you as, well, obstinate and may just pass you by.
How to discuss pay with a prospective employer
In the cover letter I stated that I would expect a competitive salary for the responsibilities mentioned including benefits and profit sharing for the Regina Area. At the interview I was nailed down about a range. I have reviewed several salary expectation websites and most national rates, may be overstated and I find.
