Job Description for Assistant Finance Manager

The main focus of an assistant finance manager is to help maintain the financial stability of a business. They usually work directly under a company's financial manager, helping the manager analyze and improve their company's financial standing. Assistant finance managers are found in a number of industries.

The assistant finance manager spends a great deal of time checking and updating financial reports. A business' financial reports must be accurate and all transactions must be accounted for, meaning someone in this role must be detail oriented, able to identify even the smallest of errors. An assistant finance manager usually plays a role in ensuring that the business' financial and business plans are accurate and viable. Additionally, they must be able to work well with auditors.

Generally, employers expect assistant finance managers to be familiar with a general ledger system. A bachelor's degree in finance or a related field is the usually required, and many companies prefer that assistant finance managers have a master's degree in a relevant field as well.
Assistant Finance Manager Tasks
  • Process financial and accounting information according to internal controls and policies.
  • Analyze company taxes and work with accountants to develop strategies to reduce taxes.
  • Ensures that financial statements are accurate and in compliance with company and government regulations.
  • Draft financial reports and statements to present to senior management.
