Human resources business partners (HRBPs) are very similar to HR managers with regard to their job requirements. Since the title of HR business partner has developed within the past few years, the general consensus is that there's very little difference between HRBPs and HR managers/advisers/generalists. However, some argue that HRBPs place more focus on strategic business objectives.
Regardless of their focus, HRBPs work with internal employees to assist with various needs in the human resources area. They are responsible for solving complex personnel issues and assessing and developing HR strategies and processes. They also evaluate company policies, research changes in HR law, and recommend, implement and enforce the changes for their respective company.
HR business partners often work on several projects at once, so they must have a great sense of business acumen, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills as they work with employees and executive level personnel frequently. They must also be strategic thinkers, have knowledge of best practices, and a solid understanding of the workings of HR.
The educational requirements for HRBPs are usually a bachelor’s degree and experience in the human resources field. HRBPs generally work typical weekday business hours, but they may be required to work longer or weekend hours depending on their companies' fields.
