Job Description for Product Manager, Software

Most of the time, a software project manager works on developing programs and writing code to a client’s specifications. The project manager is the primary point of contact between the client and the rest of the project team. Project managers need to be courteous and able to think outside of the box, with the ability to lead a team in transforming a client's concept into an actual working software program that represents the company well.
Project manager also need to possess the ability to hone in on the strengths and weaknesses of the software team. Each team is only as good as their weakest link, and the project manager needs to be capable of successfully utilizing every team member. The project manager makes sure each component of software design is coming along at the same pace so all parts of the design come together for the client at the same time.
The work takes place in a large office, and candidates must be comfortable sitting at a desk most of the day. The ideal candidate has experience leading a team, is comfortable running board and team meetings, and has a proven track record of success. An ideal candidate for this position works hard and takes innovative measures to bring customers the best possible software programs. Candidates should be comfortable with both Mac and PC operating systems, and typically must have a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
