Job Description for Assistant Marketing Manager

An assistant marketing manager works closely with a supervising marketing manager to ensure that the marketing techniques used by the company are effective and produce the desired outcomes for the company in areas such as sales. The scope of an assistant marketing manager’s duties will vary based on the company's field or specialty; local companies may only have local marketing campaigns, while other, larger companies may have professionals directing marketing for an entire region or country.

Regardless of scope, the marketing manager delegates a variety of tasks to the assistant. These may include conducting focus groups about advertisements or products, gathering information about customers, or designing advertisements. This individual also helps develop new strategies and plans of action for marketing new products or overhauling old marketing plans.

An assistant marketing manager usually needs a bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field. In addition, expert organizational skills and communication skills are a must, as the individual must be able to converse effectively with both subordinates and supervisors to develop and carry out new strategies. Finally, previous experience in marketing may be required by potential employers.
Assistant Marketing Manager Tasks
  • Oversee and participate in the design of marketing materials such as brochures, websites, presentations, and press releases.
  • Work to maximize revenue from a product by increasing sales, determine pricing structures for products.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of annual marketing plans for a brand, service, or line of products.
  • Conduct research on product target markets, customer demographics, and activities of competitors.
