A senior web designer is responsible for designing and implementing websites for one or more companies. Depending on the size and structure of their firm, the "senior" designation may refer to either how long they have been employed by their firm or their position relative to other designers; a senior web designer may be a leader for a team of designers as well.
Work environments for senior web designers can vary greatly. For example, if an individual is employed as a telecommuter, then their work environment may be very different from someone who works from a specific office. That said, most employers still want senior web designers to be onsite, if for no other reason than to enable them to easily collaborate with others working on related projects.
Most employers expect a senior web designer to have not only a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field, but also several years’ hands-on experience designing web sites. However, some firms will accept extensive experience in lieu of a degree.
