Job Description for Sales and Marketing Manager

Sales and marketing managers may play a dual role, as sales and marketing are usually two different departments or functions. Marketing is the development of ideas to reach people and sell products. Sales is the actual implementation and use of those ideas developed by marketing to sell the product. Sales and marketing managers must possess a high level of knowledge and insight into what customers want and need, as well as what customers don't even know they want or need yet.
Sales and marketing managers work in various industries in which a products and/or services are sold. They generally work in an office, with typical office hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They also spend a lot of time with sales and/or marketing teams in conference rooms. They usually report to a higher-level director, but sometimes they direct to a company president or CEO. Sales and marketing managers make use of regular office equipment, including phones, computers, pens and paper, and other typical office supplies. Sometimes they may be required to travel to meet in conjunction with another sales/marketing team in their company or to finalize a sale. Their main duties include overseeing teams of sales and marketing representatives. Sales and marketing managers must collect ideas and determine which one are the most useful, while also building on those ideas and putting them into use. Sales and marketing managers must have a wealth of experience as a sales or marketing representative, and they must also have a bachelor's degree, preferably in the related fields of business management or marketing. They must be able to coordinate at a high level to get the highest level of production out of a team while utilizing the ideas formulated by their team.
The role of a sales and marketing manager is very involved in both generating ideas for new products or just finding a better way to sell an old product. Sales and marketing managers are also involved in selling products on the market, so they are directly involved in their company's success. A creative and diligent mind can go a long way in this profession.
