Job Description for Contracts Administrator, Construction

A construction contracts administrator carries out administrative duties relating to contracts for a construction company or a consulting firm which works on behalf of a construction company. This position involves a variety of duties and requires an organized individual who is able to multi-task effectively.

These administrators will generally audit new proposals, make changes to existing proposals, and develop contracts. The job also involves keeping a database to keep track of expiration dates to ensure that all subcontractors have up-to-date insurance and certification, so computer skills will certainly be utilized in this position. Contracts administrators should also renew items before they lapse and write bid packages in accordance with laws and regulations; this is usually done with the help of a lawyer.

Those in this position will review bid insurance requirements and have them approved by the local government, and are also in charge of making sure any other forms and approvals are obtained before construction begins. They may also be responsible for reviewing contractor payment requests and/or administering payments for contractors. Finally, contracts administrators must make sure all contracts are carried out and closed successfully.

A bachelor’s degree in a field such as construction management is usually required, along with many years of experience in the field. Travel may be required, so a valid driver’s license is necessary.
