Senior sales engineers, sometimes called system engineers or field consultants, They work with the sales team to help explain and demonstrate the technological aspects of the product being marketed. Senior sales engineers are trained intensively on sales techniques. Their goal is not just to sell a product, but to fully explain to a client how it will solve their issues. They provide advice to the clients and support for products. They help prospective clients understand why their product is a better resolution to a problem they’re having over another similar product.
Once a sale has been made, senior sales engineers continues to be a customer's point of contact for any issues that arise. They may troubleshoot the issues to ensure that their product is working efficiently and effectively for the customer. Many senior sales engineers much of their day traveling to meet with clients.
Senior sales engineers may also work with the research and development (R&D), design, or production departments by consulting on a product or service to identify any areas that could be improved for customer satisfaction. This is helpful when they go out to sell their product or service, as they are able to spotlight certain areas that have been designed with the customer in mind.
Typically, a bachelor's degree in a technical field is required in this position. Many employers prefer several years' experience in a related position.

- Able to respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs.
- Provide support as the primary technical resource for the field sales force.
- Manage the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate.
- Responsible for development and delivery of product demonstrations.
