Chemical process engineers must have several well-developed skill sets, such as strong aptitude in mathematics and science. They must have the ability to perform rigorous experimentation with materials, analyze data, and find meaningful results. The ability to work cohesively as a part of a team is important, as is the ability to follow safety protocols. A chemical process engineer generally works full time and spends most of his or her day in a laboratory or plant.
Entry-level chemical process engineer positions require a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field. Some higher-level jobs require higher-level degrees, all the way up to doctorate level. Additionally, chemical process engineers must obtain licensing, which is obtained through the successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam.
