Job Description for Senior Writer

A senior writer works for any entity that produces publications, such as magazines, newspapers, or blogs. The senior writer may also work for a company or organization in order to create things such as press releases, correspondence, and advertisements.

A senior writer generally produces original content. Some research and interviews may be required in order to carry out tasks. Therefore, the senior writer should keep up to date on happenings in the assigned field in order to produce writing that will attract the audience. When dealing with certain fields, the writer may have to have experience working in that field. For instance, if the writer will be dealing with writing in the medical field, it may be required to have nursing experience. When the position involves advertising, the copy writer may work with the marketing department in order to develop advertisements and campaign ideas. In other positions, the senior writer will do work that is exclusively copywriting or editing.

Since this is a senior position, some experience as a writer is required. The position usually requires a university degree, though some positions may accept a writer based solely on a portfolio. Some positions require a degree in journalism. The position also requires proficiency in Microsoft Word and may require experience in design software, depending on the job. In all senior writer positions, it is important to be able to use proper grammar and spelling, as well as have a style that will be enticing to audiences. Some positions are full-time, while others are part-time or freelance.
