A finance director is someone who oversees and handles all of the finances of a particular company and/or workplace. The finance director's job consists of many different tasks, including handling the budget and money for the company, as well as communicating the financial situation with others in the business and with the general public (if the company is accountable to the stockholders or the public). A finance director manages the preparation of budgets, forecasts and accounting activities for the company or organization. To do this job requires not only being good with money, but also requires excellent people skills for the sake of communication and cooperation within the organization. A finance director develops policies and procedures to control and report financials, including keeping records of all previous finances. Most of this work is mental. This job is also partly physical, as you have to input information either on a computer or on paper, or even both. A finance director is also required to go to meetings to report financial situations of the company in question. The finance director oversees the preparation of regulatory and financial reporting as required, and ensures compliance. A finance director directs the staff operations, business planning and budget development and compliance for the department and/or company. The finance director has someone he or she reports to when making a decision or recommendation. The finance director is also the one held accountable if the business gets into any sort of financial trouble with or without the law.
