Job Description for Sales Account Manager, Information Technology (IT)

Sales account managers for information technology (IT) are in charge of managing all the sales aspects of the IT area for their organization. They are responsible for creating and maintaining new customer accounts. These managers must be results oriented and provide the best account experience for their clients. One of their main responsibilities include generating new business by creating leads and following industry trends. They also network with small, medium, and large businesses to analyze their needs and offer tailored products for them.

Additionally, sales account managers for IT identify specific opportunities to to market IT hardware and services, as well as demonstrate product or services knowledge to answer any questions from prospective customers. They also provide support after the sale has been completed. One of their main tools include a personal computer to keep accurate records of interactions with prospect clients, as well as completed sale orders. Generally, these managers report to the sales IT supervisor in their department.

This job generally requires a high school diploma or equivalent, in addition to previous experience in a sales environment with IT-related products and/or services. They should have previous tactical and strategic experience to get new accounts and provide value to existing customers. Sales account managers for IT must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver under strict deadlines. They should be able to multitask in a variety of sales projects and be able to close the sales. They must perform well in a team setting, but also work effectively on their own to achieve all company objectives.
Sales Account Manager, Information Technology (IT) Tasks
  • Provide quotes of product and service prices, and negotiate sales with customers.
  • Open and maintain customer sales accounts and keep records of customer transactions.
  • Determine the IT needs of new and existing customers and sell products or services which address these needs.
  • Identify and follow up on opportunities for new sales.
