Job Description for Senior Electrical Engineer

Senior electrical engineers need to have a wide verity of skills in order to perform their job duties. These workers will have a strong foundation in mathematics and science. Senior electrical engineers will generally at least have a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. They will also hold a certification that states they are a professional engineer. Often a senior electrical engineer will hold a master's degree in electrical engineering from a top university and have ten or more years of industry experience. He or she engineer will also have proven skills with design and drafting computer software. Senior electrical engineers will need to posses excellent problem-solving skills and have the creativity to help develop new technologies. They will also have excellent communication skills that will require them to communicate complex issues to upper-level management. A senior electrical engineer must also possess excellent writing skills in order to prepare reports for the firm's use. These workers will have leadership skills that will allow for team building and will enable junior-level electrical engineers to learn and grow with the industry. A senior electrical engineer will also have the mindset to keep up with the ever-changing technology in the field of electrical engineering. Senior electrical engineers design and develop electrical products for every type of industry. It is not uncommon to find senior electrical engineers working in such fields as telecommunications, computer design and even construction. A senior electrical engineer's job also requires travel in order to meet the firm's needs.
Senior Electrical Engineer Tasks
  • Supervises and trains project staff as needed.
  • Applies principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.
  • Designs, maintains, implements, and improves electrical instruments and equipment.
  • Inspects completed projects to ensure conformance with design and safety standards.
