Business managers specializing in logistics, inventory, distribution, and transportation are responsible for overseeing, planning, and executing the delivery of their company's goods and services to clients in an efficient and timely manner. These managers' responsibilities include overseeing all personnel in transportation and ensuring delivery plans are properly executed; this often includes route planning, so understanding the geography of relevant routes is essential. Responsibilities also include allocating funding and resources, as well as monitoring costs and negotiating contracts. Additionally, this manager must keep track of inventory and requests. They should also have strong communication skills to effectively communicate with clients, employees, and businesses.

Generally, these positions require at least a bachelor's degree; however, experience may sometimes be substituted for education. Experience in a similar position - including in a managerial capacity - is also needed. Business managers specializing in logistics, inventory, distribution, and transportation should have excellent organizational skills, sound financial decision-making abilities, and the ability to perform basic math accurately. Proficiency with basic computer software such as the Microsoft Office suite is also needed. The ability to negotiate contracts is crucial, as the manager's main duties include ensuring the supply chain for the delivery of products or services sold is run in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
