Job Description for Teacher Aide

Teacher aides play a very important role in our educational system. They can be paid or volunteer workers that help assist teachers in executing all of their daily goals and activities for each class. Teacher aides are required to at least have a high school diploma. However, some assistants can be high school students and work as volunteers. Parents and college students can also volunteer as a teacher aide. These aides perform various tasks and functions for teachers. They can work with groups of small children, grade assignments, record grades, make copies, decorate the room, and in some cases supervise a class for a short period of time. These aides will also work with certain students assigned to them by the teacher who may be having difficulty in the classroom. They are there to give those students the extra time and attention that they need. A teacher aide must also submit to a background check and fingerprinting to assure that there is no criminal activity in their past. Teacher aides help the teachers with their day-to-day work. They can supervise the children during instruction and recess, in the hallways, etc. They are there to maintain order and provide a good learning environment for the students. They also assist the teacher with records such as attendance and grades, and help handle difficult behavioral problems or safety issues that may occur in the classroom. Teacher aides also assist in developing, preparing, and distributing lessons and materials to the students in the classroom. These aides are there to help not only the teachers, but the students, as well. They are there to give extra help whenever it is needed.
Teacher Aide Tasks
  • Handle difficult behavioral problems or safety issues directly.
  • Assist teachers with records such as attendance and grades.
  • Supervise students during instruction, recess, hallways, etc., to maintain order and provide a good learning environment.
  • Assist in developing, preparing, and distributing lessons and materials.
