Job Description for Business Analyst, IT

An IT Business Analyst's job is to create project plans for information technology development and testing. Their goal is to identify how information technology can help satisfy business and customer requirements. IT business analysts are responsible to overseeing and contributing to all aspects of IT projects within an organization, including identifying, communicating and managing any risks associated with projects. It is the IT business analyst's job to translate requirements into new information technology project specifications. IT business analysts work in a variety of industries. In fact, the scope of industry opportunities for these types of analysts is virtually unlimited. Any business which uses or has the potential to use computer technologies could us an IT business analyst- either for internal business purposes, or to help satisfy customer needs. Work settings are typical office settings and co-workers include leaders and consultant from different departments, programmers and other analysts. Companies who hire IT business analysts are typically looking for those who have completed a four year degree in computer science, engineering, management information systems, or something very similar. A typical day may include brainstorming both within and outside the IT department in order to test different ideas, testing prototype software implementations, consulting with different departments, and developing new systems. A typical work week for an IT business analyst is 40 hours per week, but could be more depending on what is being worked upon and what deadlines must be met.
