Job Description for Organ Transplant Coordinator

Organ transplant coordinators are in charge of all legal, technical, scientific, and administrative issues relating to organ donation and transplants. They generally oversee the entire process of diagnosis and deeming a corpse fit for donation, and must also faithfully enforce rules related to legislation, for the whole process falls under their authority.

Organ transplant coordinators must depend on their medical specialists' directions. Some must be available 24 hours a day to be able to participate in any of the hospital’s activities related to extraction or transplantation of organs. They are expected to maintain this dedication at all times, for they may occasionally be needed when they least expect it, especially in hospitals with a high volume of patients.

Those in this position must have the appropriate medical, legal, and technical training to be hired, and must also have leadership skills to oversee a team of employees with diverse backgrounds. These employees rely on organ transplant coordinators to effectively organize the team, utilize their expertise in the best way available, and work well under pressure.
