Job Description for Brand Manager

A brand managers responsibilities are multipronged, ranging from product development management and subsequent marketing, to developing and managing partner relationships and creating marketable portfolios for products and develop consumer communications in collaboration with corporate advertising. Specifically, a brand manager develops plans and subsequently, executes projects that are contingent with a coherent marketing strategy by developing and leading an annual brand strategy. It is expected that brand managers develop specific objectives with tactics and marketing goals related to brand and product marketing. A brand manager's job is skill specific and mostly relates to appropriate management of both the brand and product as well as advertising and packaging within designated budgets constraints. Brand managers are expected to account for the product portfolio, including both pricing and costing as well as SKU rationalization and Lead development of consumer communications in collaboration with corporate advertising. Thusly, it is expected that a brand manager researches competition and make defined recommendations to drive the business forward by understanding and probing the global market. Team development is also essential, as it is the brand manager's duty to develop a team whereby each individual has a clear plan that is entirely congruent with the broader goal of the team, company and products. An establishment with business partners is thusly an extremely high priority, specifically with cross functional partners such as Global Merchandise Planning (GMP), Product Development and Costing to help account and make any retail price adjustments on the basis of the market. Finally, brand managers are also expected to work with assistant brand managers to nurture marketing skill development.
Brand Manager Tasks
  • Lead development of consumer communications in collaboration with corporate advertising.
  • Set objectives, strategies, tactics and targets for all elements of the marketing mix.
  • Develop and coach assistant brand managers and guide marketing skill development.
  • Develop and lead annual brand strategy.
  • Responsible for developing plans and executing projects that support the broader marketing strategy.
