Job Description for Daycare Teacher

Daycare teachers work daily with children of toddler age during the day. They must incorporate physical and mental awareness to assist the children with their daily activities, plan new activities and projects for them to do each day, and be mindful and aware of their safety at all times. Some of the other daily tasks with the children include reading to them, preparing food and snacks, and playing games. Daycare teachers work with other teachers in a childcare setting--usually lead teachers and teacher aides. Daycare teachers work directly with children, helping them with their playtime, snacks and any learning activities. Daycare teachers also plan activities for the children and keep the classroom clean. Teachers must also be able to interact with the children’s parents and communicate any problems or issues to them. Daycare teachers must also work to facilitate any communications with the children and their parent(s) or guardian(s) if there are problems or goals to reach. Most daycare teachers must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years old. Many daycare teachers have an educational background in early childhood education or childhood development. Many daycare teachers also have specialized training such as Montessori, teacher certifications, first aid food handling, and generally have completed a background check.
Daycare Teacher Tasks
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of daycare center.
  • Oversee child interactions and play, and ensure a safe and supportive environment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with parents about schedules, problems, and offerings.
  • Prepare daily activities and schedule, setting up educational and entertaining offerings.
  • Prepare and clean up after snacks and lunch.
