Job Description for Fast Food Worker

A fast food worker typically works in the fast food industry, which includes many of the fast food restaurants that we know so well. The work of a fast food employee is both physical and mental. They have to work with such things as grills, microwaves, spatulas, fryers, and many other kitchen tools and utensils. The mental aspect is that a fast food worker has to work diligently and quickly to maintain a fast workflow and keep up with orders. Sometimes they may also have to run a cash register to take customers' orders, so concentration, communication, and math skills would be needed. Other responsibilities would include greeting and receiving customer orders and payment while offering menu information, answering questions, up-selling, cleaning and stocking work and customer areas, and assisting with kitchen prep. Fast food workers can work indoors or outdoors, depending on the nature of the restaurant. Mostly, however, fast food workers work inside. Fast food restaurants are typically the places that employ fast food workers. Fast food workers work with other employees like themselves, and their bosses typically consist of a general manager and assistant manager. The education required to work as a fast food worker is usually a high school diploma or equivalent. However, some places may make exceptions. It depends on the manager or particular restaurant. No certifications are required. Typical hours of operation for a fast food worker are late morning to evening time. Sometimes, depending on the hours of operation of the restaurant, fast food workers can even work graveyard shifts. A day of work for a fast food worker would be pretty busy, and lunchtime would be the busiest part of the day.
