Job Description for Human Resources (HR) Coordinator

A human resources (HR) coordinator is in charge of the administration and maintenance of human resources activities and programs, including staffing, compensation, benefits, training, and workplace safety. Staffing duties including posting job listings as necessary to fill vacancies, and looking over resumes or applications that are received to ensure that the basic qualifications are met before passing them on to the hiring team. The coordinator will answer employee questions about human resources matters such as insurance, payroll, retirement plans, hiring procedures, and company policy; referrals are made to specialists when necessary. The job also includes managing new hire orientations, human resources events, and open enrollment for benefits such as health insurance, and company-wide meetings. A background in human resources is required for the coordinator position, and a degree in a related field such as business administration is preferred. To work in human resources, an applicant should have a professional demeanor with coworkers and outside parties (such as the third party managing any company insurance plans) and should be able to promote a team environment within the HR department. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. It is a desk job with typical office hours, Monday through Friday. A human resources coordinator should be proficient in the use of office equipment including computers, fax machines, printers, copiers, and scanners; one should also be well-versed in common software such as MS Office. As the position involves handling personal information of employees, the coordinator is expected to maintain proper security for any and all employee files.
Human Resources (HR) Coordinator Tasks
  • Answers employee questions about human resources policies and procedures, and refers to specialist as needed.
  • Coordinates new hire orientation, HR events, benefits open enrollment and company-wide meetings.
  • Administers and maintains HR activities and programs; such as staffing, compensation, benefits, training and safety.
