Job Description for Junior Graphic Designer

A junior graphic design will contribute to and work with senior graphic designers to brainstorm ideas and bring these ideas to fruition. Work sometimes includes client meetings or presentations of advertising or marketing campaigns. Additionally, junior graphic designers can work for newspaper other types of publishers to create compelling, coherent text and design for print advertisements. Design possibilities range from brochures, flyers, and presentation boards to signage, billboards, and much more.
Often junior graphic designers are required to have an associate's or bachelor's degree in graphic design and one to two years of experience. A thorough knowledge of computers and design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign is required. It is important to have typographical skills as well as layout proficiency.
Some junior graphic designers are also required to create banner ads and other web content. Coding experience is usually not necessary. Also, junior graphic designers can expect to be trained in electronic file delivery, ftp sites, and other computer skills.
This is a good starting position to learn about the workplace and build a diverse portfolio, as well as work on client relations and teamwork. It is also an opportunity to learn to conform to company style guides and work on multiple projects or campaigns simultaneously. Junior graphic designers will normally work independently but report to senior-level designers for approval.
The junior graphic designer works during normal business hours in a wide array of environments, including marketing, consulting, and publications. There are full-time, part-time, and even independent consulting positions available in this field.
Junior Graphic Designer Tasks
  • Design and develop product brand identity.
  • Direct marketing design projects, collaborating with multiple departments.
  • Create and assemble images and graphics to produce designs for websites, print media, product design, displays and productions.
