Neurosurgeon Salary

A neurosurgeon is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of neurological conditions. A qualified candidate for this position must be board certified. Neurosurgeons often work as part of a team of specialized doctors in hospitals and other health care facilities. In addition to treatment of patients, they may teach medical students. Neurosurgeons are also sometimes required to oversee medical residents, particularly when working in a teaching hospital.
Neurosurgeons are often required to evaluate patients for neurological conditions; and must be able to effectively and efficiently make a positive or negative diagnosis, and administer treatment when necessary. This sometimes requires surgical procedures, which a neurosurgeon may personally administer.
It is vitally important that a neurosurgeon is able to properly handle the documentation of data pertaining to their patients' treatment. This is especially important due to the delicate nature of neurological medicine. This data consists of diagnosis details, treatment schedules (including medications), as well as any other information relating to their patients' health.
A neurosurgeon is usually required to interact regularly with their patients. This is necessary during diagnosis and treatment, as well as in the process of assisting the patient in medical decisions. It is the physician's duty to ensure that the patient is properly informed so that they are able to choose a course of action for their treatment that they are comfortable with, and that will best help them recover. In order to achieve this goal, the physician must discuss all possible courses of action, as well as all risks to the patient.
