Job Description for Postdoctoral Research Associate

Postdoctoral research associates work with universities and their staff to perform scientific research in their associated field. They will often be required to do outdoor field work, but much of their work will be inside of a lab setting where proper controls can be created. Beyond undergraduate and graduate studies, a postdoctoral research associate needs a Ph.D. in their respective field. Due in no small part to their advanced knowledge and research on a subject, postdoctoral research associates design and evaluate experiments and their findings. Their ability to perform experiments with proper methodology is critical to the development of scientific understanding.

Postdoctoral research associates need a deep understanding of the tools of their trade. They must utilize a wide variety of lab equipment; to ensure quality, they must regularly maintain and inspect their equipment as well. Documentation of their methods and findings is also key towards the scientific process. Postdoctoral research associates need to keep thorough, A postdoctoral research associate needs to create diagrams, graphs, and presentations to present findings to financial backers, their peers, and the public.

  • Write up results in lab notebooks as well as for publication.
  • Maintain, inspect, and use laboratory and equipment.
