Job Description for Production/Manufacturing Technician

Production manufacturing technicians are responsible for performing many production-centered processes. Workplace accidents hinder profits, so a successful technician in this position must abide by all environmental, health, and safety guidelines. If they have concerns about the operation of a piece of equipment, they should seek guidance from a supervisor as soon as possible. Conforming to production values set forth by team supervisors is key, and good analytical skills, attention to accuracy/detail, and a keen eye for discrepancies are necessary.

Most production manufacturing technicians are tasked with preparing, monitoring, and operating the equipment associated with the products being manufactured. Production manufacturing technicians must be comfortable doing repetitive tasks and maintaining quality inspections on their products, as well as reporting any problems or concerns to their immediate supervisor in a timely manner. Much of the production manufacturing technician's work of is done without direct supervision. These technicians typically work eight- to twelve-hour shifts, depending on the company. They must be self-motivated and meet all quality standards set forth by their supervisors. They must also work well with other team members with the goal of completing production targets in a timely manner while maintaining the highest product integrity.

Previous experience in production manufacturing is helpful. A working knowledge of basic computer programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word is valuable, as are the ability to read and write well and keep excellent records. A postsecondary degree may be helpful depending on the particular field of production.

Production/Manufacturing Technician Tasks
  • Perform equipment duties in production according to standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with daily manufacturing operations in manufacturing facility.
  • Confirm correct materials and appropriate quantities are used, report any discrepancies.
  • Maintain records in a facility environment.
