Job Description for Project Manager, Architecture

An architectural project manager is the person who leads an entire architecture project from start to finish. Architectural project managers set the objectives, requirements, and budget for the whole project. They motivate the team members and provide progress reports to executives. Architectural project managers will design and direct most phases of a building project as well as make sure that the project meets environmental, safety, structural, zoning, and aesthetic standards. In order to do this, an architectural project manager needs to have excellent organizational skills and the ability to provide clear instructions. A person in this position must be assertive enough to to set clear goals for the construction team. Architectural project managers need to remain approachable so that the team members will be comfortable reporting any problems or setbacks. When these problems occur, they must be able to adapt their approach to the work. They typical day for an architectural project manager consists of answering emails, attending meetings, and finishing paperwork for the project. These are generally done in an office environment. However, the need does arise for the manager to visit the job sites in order to keep an eye on the progress, offer his or her expert advice, and conduct inspections to be sure that the site meets safety requirements. Architectural project managers will handle the construction bids and negotiate contracts. They will be the ones doing the hiring. A great deal of the architectural project manager's time will be spent meeting with clients, engineers, contractors, and other construction personnel. In order to get into this position, a bachelor's degree in architecture is needed, which is a five-year process. Architectural project managers need to also complete an internship either while going to school or once they graduate. States also require that this person be licensed.

  • Coordinate project's program requirements with in-house departments.
  • Coordinate with various consultants.
  • Responsible for coordinating the architectural project; including design, construction, millwork, shop drawing review, budget and schedule maintenance.
