Job Description for Retail Sales Assistant

Retail Sales Assistants work at the entry-level position of retail. They are capable of doing everything a regular Retail Sales Associate may do, except they tend to work less with the customers. One could say that they do the "grunt" work of the retail industry. This position is a good one for inexperienced workers to learn and develop skills in a variety of ways.
A Retail Sales Assistant works in the retail business, which deals in selling either items or services. There is not a lot of difference between a Retail Sales Assistant and a Retail Sales Associate, except that a Retail Sales Assistant is not usually required to provide as much direct customer service as a Retail Sales Associate. Retail Sales Assistants will perform the various functions in a store that keep the store and its products presentable. They will stock shelves, organize products in storage, assemble items when necessary, price-tag products, and tidy stores up. They may also run the cash register. This job is generally the starting point for those in the retail industry, and they may start this position at a young age. They report to Sales Associates, but also to Store Managers and Department Supervisors, as well. Most Retail Sales Assistants are still in high school. As a result of this, there is no educational requirement other than basic abilities in dealing with numbers and being able to lift at least 50 pounds. The working hours for a Retail Sales Associate vary, as the retail industry has different hours than other industries. They may work in the evening or during weekends. However, as many Retail Sales Assistants are minors, they are subject to working hours restrictions, including how many hours they may work per week and how late they can work.
The position of Retail Sales Assistant is the jumping-off point for the working life of many individuals. It is a great opportunity for a person to develop the skills required to work with others and with customers. It also develops responsibility and can be the beginning of a fulfilling career in the retail industry or many other kinds of jobs.
