Job Description for Strategic Planning Manager, Marketing

Most of the time a strategic marketing planning manager works on ensuring that the business development practice(s) of the company are aligned with its strategic efforts. Strategic planning managers' daily work includes market analysis, market growth management and corporate sales management. This position requires problem solving abilities, highly developed people skills and cross-functional leadership abilities. Strategic planning managers should possess over five years of experience, a bachelor's degree (preferably in engineering, finance or business) and strong knowledge of the industry. Strategic planning managers provide strategic input to senior management to aid in their decision making. Additionally, quantitative analysis and synthesis are required on a daily basis to help facilitate interdepartmental communication. Preparation of business plans, reports, presentations and maintenance of performance measures is also expected.

Ongoing responsibilities include the identification of new sustainable and profitable growth opportunities, presentations to senior management, achieving the revenue goals set by the division, retaining and developing customer relations and coordinating presentations across departments. Professionals working as strategic planning managers should be reachable via mobile phones and be present in the office on a 9 to 5 schedule. Daily computer and smartphone usage is required. Some travel may be required depending on the company.

Skills that are highly desired for strategic planning managers are the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, attention to detail, proficiency in Microsoft Office, hands-on implementation experience, and more. Since this position reports to the director of marketing and involves customer interaction, good presentation skills and a professional image are required. Additional qualifications can include PMI certification, consulting experience, MBA, CFA, DCF modeling, NPV and IRR analysis.
