Warehouse Supervisor Salary

A warehouse supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of product and materials in and out of the warehouse during their shift. The supervisor will make sure that work stays on schedule and deadlines are met by prioritizing work loads in the warehouse. This is accomplished by providing clear direction to warehouse department leads and staff.
Safety is an important aspect of this job. A good supervisor understands that almost all accidents are preventable. A warehouse supervisor will be expected to set a good example and train employees on the company's safety policy. It is also important to have sound knowledge of state and federal health and safety guidelines.
Many warehouse supervisors are responsible for managing inventory accuracy. This is done by verifying incoming and outgoing shipments, cycle counts, and audits to verify stock. The supervisor may be required to research shortage and overage by going through past paperwork or computer records to find mistakes.
Customer service is another aspect of a warehouse supervisor's job. Customer issues and requests must be handled in a timely manner and to the customer's satisfaction. The supervisor is responsible for making sure the product that's being shipped to the customer will arrive undamaged. This is usually accomplished by training and mentoring in safe handling and good packaging techniques.
Different types of warehouses will mean different types of working environments for a warehouse supervisor. Warehouses can seem clean or dusty depending on the products they handle. For example, warehouses that handle electronics might be quite clean and have comfortable temperatures. Warehouses that handle construction materials might be warm/hot and dusty. Some warehouses are refrigerated or kept at subzero temperatures.
