Work/Life Balance Means More than Money
Information Technology (IT) Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Michigan, United States
I'm working 50 - 55 hours a week - it never ends. Its been like this year after year. Yea they give you a 3% salary increase and a 3% bonus but I'm a stranger to my kids. The money is OK but I'd rather have a normal 40 hour work week and a manager who can make decisions. My manager is known as "no decision is a good decision". Never ask him for his opinion because he doesn't want to be held accountable for a decison that could come back to haunt him. I'm also on call 24/7 in case something goes wrong. My wife told me to tell them to "stuff it" because I'm not a doctor.

Dead End
Tax Compliance Manager - (City withheld for privacy), South Carolina, United States
Do not attempt to have work life balance in Public Accounting. They make money based on one thing alone: hours. Enough said.

More personal time
Project Engineer, Construction - (City withheld for privacy), Pennsylvania, United States
I wish for more personal time. It's tough when you're on a schedule driven project where 50+ hr weeks are the norm and there's no OT for management.

Balancing Work and Your Life Outside of Work
Employee Benefits Administrator - (City withheld for privacy), Colorado, United States
I have worked ever since high school graduation plus raised my son by myself after his father and I divorced.

Looking back I now see I often times cheated my son by putting my work ahead of him and his needs. He grew up to be a wonderful human being, but if I could do it over I would spend more time with him and worry less about whether my work was going to get done, because their is always tomorrow.

Don't let your personal life suffer because of over dedication to your job. You need to learn to balance the two so you are not totally committed to one and the other loses out.

Ultimate Question
Project Manager, Information Technology (IT) - (City withheld for privacy), New York, United States
Someone once asked me, as I was complaining about my 70-hour work weeks, whether I thought on my deathbed I would say "I wish I had worked more hours at my job."

work life balance
Sales Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Oregon, United States
Once you get through training yourself really, and are patient enough that you never believed you could manage a bunch of kids, you will have a few more wrinkles but the ability to turn your cellphone off on your days off and sleep in until 10 because they aren't calling you about work stuff!

Don't neglect your non-working life
Massage Therapist - (City withheld for privacy), Washington, United States
Don't work so hard that you neglect people outside of work! It's best to have a good work-life relationship.
