Too much responsibility for amount of pay and hindered
Director of Operations - (City withheld for privacy), Pennsylvania, United States
When I started this job I was very excited because it gave me an opportunity to work in a rewarding environment. I did not realize they had reduced the previous job title from Chief Operating Officer to Director of Operations kept the same amount of responsibilities but lowered the level of authority. I do almost everything but I am restricted from calling all of the shots that affect final outcomes. At this level the position should pay a min of six figures and have the authority to execute.

Negotiate!
District Manager, Retail - (City withheld for privacy), Texas, United States
There are no such things as bad negotiations

only there are bad negotiators! Negotiate by asking for what you want. Don't be shy, put it out there! Tell them that you have to have at least a 3% salary increase each year just to keep up with inflation! Incentives don't cut it all the time! Unless they will not budge and then ask for double the incentive to allow for 50% missing.

Also, Don't buddy up with your boss ever! I regreted it because their are bad back stabbers out there that will leave you or take advantage of your hospitality!

More Hours/ More Responsiblities/ More Pay
Administrative / Office Manager - (City withheld for privacy), South Carolina, United States
I have worked for the same company now for 6 + yrs and have moved up and being giving nothing but the highest regard. However for the past 3 yrs, my hours were cut from 40 to 30 along with other employees & now that they want me to go back F/T they want me to take it for 50 cents more. 10 more hours, 20 more hrs of work, then they will reduce the other employees hrs, so there's only 60 hrs in this whole office. Companies today know they have you by the tail & that you probably cant just go out and get another job right away becuase of the market. Your stuck between a rock and hard place with no where to go. Frustrated, proative employee living in a tourist town with no where to go from here. What does a person do?

Non profits = low pay, great benefits
Employment, Recruitment, or Placement Specialist / Recruiter - (City withheld for privacy), Connecticut, United States
If you are thinking of joining a not for profit organization in a career change, know one thing. You will not be paid what you feel you are worth unless you land in an executive level job. Those types are generally OVER paid. But, there are a lot of wonderful perks/benefits. Shorter work week (generally 35 hours full time) lots of paid time off and good medical benefits.

The money stinks but the work is rewarding and the benefits can't be beat!

Certified Nurse Assistant
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) - (City withheld for privacy), Connecticut, United States
CNA's do all the heavy physical work and receive the least in compensation. CNA's are the number one occupation for personal injury, more than construction workers. However, in construction the pay scale reflects the effort. I would NEVER recommend to anyone a career as a CNA. There is tremendous disrespect from all the other types of healthcare personnel, from nurses to administration. I worked on a cardiac unit for 7 years as a CNA. By far, the toughest job I ever had and the lowest pay I ever received. I made more money in less time as a waitress! What's really sad is nursing has always been a woman's occupation, underpaid and overworked. To be treated as "less than" by other women is even sadder.

Impeccable Personal Standard
HVAC Refrigeration Technician - (City withheld for privacy), Arizona, United States
Half fast work & blatant laziness caught me by surprise from day 1 in the field. Improper procedures, disregard for EPA regulation, ripping off customers, trashing an attic or crawl space. You name it. For the moment its a time & $$$$ saver. The boss in most cases expects it. Honestly you're degrading your self worth and integrity. Go for it. Vent cfc refrig. , pull a 2 minute evacuation, leak test with 35psig of an azeotrope in vapor state, braze 410a lines with out 15% silver, bypass safeties, size by sq.ft, beer can cold BS, don't purge w\nitrogen nor replace driers, solder h2o lines with a lead solder, triple/quadruple parts retail, .... See how pathetic you can become. Or be a man and take the time for research, proper application procedure, PR, site clean-up and honesty. Stand up to that boss or employee to become part of the few humble, impeccable men of knowledge. Your wallet and grin will soon grow.
