What is the interview process like at Amazon?

Very rigorous! Typically, candidates are first contacted by a recruiter, sometimes a hiring manager for a phone screen. Often there is more than one phone screen, especially if the candidate would be relocating. Onsite interviews typically include a round of 3-5 interviews, but can be 7-8 in a day. Often different interviewers will focus on different skills or question types. Amazon is fond if asking tough coding questions and brain teasers to test out a person's ability to think. In most cases, it's more important to share how you think than get to a specific answer. If you do get an interview, do your homework. Be sure you know a lot about the company and especially the product/service area you are interviewing with. I also suggest you read the most recent press releases and as many of the social features as you can, e.g. write a product review and share it on Twitter/Facebook. I was there for 7 years and interviewed hundreds of candidates...one question I always asked was "what was the last thing you purchased on Amazon," I don't think I ever hired someone who couldn't answer that question.
