When it comes to location, the highest average paycheck (about $95K annually) can be spotted in Newark, Del.; Glen Burnie, Md. (approximately $73K), Baltimore, Md. ($67K), and Boston, Mass. ($61K) are the next top-paying cities. Detroit, Mich. is near the bottom for pay at $47K. By state, the highest compensation levels appear in Delaware, where the average salary is around $95K per year.


Earning approximately $89K annually on average, Clinical Directors receive the most money, followed by Hospice Education Directors (around $83K), Hospice Nurses (about $75K), and Licensed Clinical Social Workers ($60K). Financial compensation for Music Therapists is rather low — on average only $45K — relative to the rest of the company.

Years of Experience

For those with one to four years of experience, median paychecks reach $50K per year. The greater proportion of employees (46 percent) report five to nine years of experience and bring home median pay of $63K annually.

Certifications and Degrees

Being a Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse certainly has its perks — salaries approach around $87K per year and far exceed the paychecks of those without certification. Registered Nurses also rank high on the pay scale, with expected average earnings of approximately $77K annually. The highest-paying degree here is a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN); Seasons Hospice awards about $85K to these degree-holders.


Employees who count Strategic Planning among their skills enjoy higher pay; the median for this group is $96K per year. Hospice is considered a run-of-the-mill skill; more than a third of Seasons Hospice's people use it regularly. Many workers are also familiar with Case Management, Bereavement Counseling, and Operations Management.


Seasons Hospice's employees who participated in the survey are more likely to be female — the female-to-male ratio is more than 3 to 1.
