Sentara Healthcare is a non-profit health care organization headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia. It serves more than two million people in the southeastern Hampton Roads region of the state as well as northeastern North Carolina. Sentara Healthcare has helped patients of all ages for more than 120 years. By working with other industry leaders, the company runs more than one hundred locations, including ten acute care hospitals, seven nursing facilities, and three assisted living homes. With 380 primary care and other physicians, Sentara Healthcare provides a broad range of services, such as home health, healthcare plans, physical therapy, and hospice care. It also operated the first air ambulance service in the area called Nightingale. Sentara Healthcare is actively involved in research, and it developed the proprietary eICU, a remote monitoring system for intensive care. Modern Healthcare magazine consistently ranks Sentara Healthcare as a leading healthcare system in the country.
