Moving/Relocation
Go ahead and just go to nursing school...
If you ever want to relocate, RT jobs can be few and far between. There's never a shortage of RN jobs. Don't waste your time and school $ on RT if you ultimately want to be a RN, as schools don't care about your credits, degree, and work experience. They'll make you start all over again.
Don't Procrastinate
If you are moving and plan to work, don't wait until the last minute to began your job search. It's never too early.
Get everything in writing
My advice to any one considering a job that requires relocating is to negotiate the best deal you can, complete with dates and any special considerations, and get it in writing, notarizied if possible. This way, if there are any questions later they can be addressed. Also, keep receipts for everything involved with the move for the employer's records, your records and tax records. Good luck job hunting to all of us!!!
learn about local culture
Ask about local museums and other activities. Find out about whether they have similar interests. For instance, Do you prefer to become involved in religious activities? or, Do you prefer to hang out at the local coffee house?
Relocating as an LPN
I recently moved from Denver, Colorado to Indianapolis, Indiana due to my husband's transfer at work. Although I was aware of the decrease in wages, I was shocked to find out just how low it was. I have had to take a $18 per hour cut in pay. Yes, the cost of living is a lot lower but wow, that hurts! I have found that by discussing this at the time of job offer has really helped me. My current employer is a county hospital which we all know pays less than the lovely nursing homes. But, my employer was willing to take my time spent during my education as experience which raised my pay a considerable amount. They also have given me experince credit for the classes I am currently taking as I work towards my BSN. Try talking to your new employer about offering you the same thing. As students we did learn quite a bit of information that is usefull and some employers are willing to take into account that you are used to higher wages and are willing to work with you to help you get what they want, as long as you are willing to give them what they want, a competent nurse who is willing to work their needed shifts. And don't forget the sacred shift differential (if you can work eves or noc). Good luck on your move!
Surgical Tech
I live in Ferriday, LA. I would like to move to Jackson, MS. I have six years experience as a surgical tech, and am currently employed by a local Medical Center. I love what I do, and would like to keep up my professional skills up.
Medical Assistant Certified
I worked as a nurses aide for 13 years and a medical unit assistant for 3 years and now I am going into a new area of medical due to the fact that i am relocating. I would like to be able to keep helping sick people because the is my passion and i do not want to loose it but also i would like a fair salary and paid vaction and benefits.
